How the sentence counter works
Paste any text and the sentence count updates live. A sentence is any run of characters ending with a period, exclamation mark, question mark, or ellipsis — so “What?!” and “Wait…” each count as one. A trailing fragment without ending punctuation (“like this”) still counts as a sentence.
No detector is perfect: abbreviations such as “Mr.” or decimals such as “3.14” can confuse the simple punctuation rule, so treat the count as a close estimate on technical text rather than gospel.

How are sentences detected?
The counter finds runs of text ending in a period, exclamation mark, question mark, or ellipsis. A final piece of text without ending punctuation still counts when it contains letters or digits.
Do abbreviations like “Mr.” break the count?
They can — “Mr.” looks like a sentence ending to the punctuation rule, so “Mr. Smith came” may count as two. Check the result on text that is heavy with abbreviations.
What about decimal numbers like 3.14?
Decimals can also confuse the rule, since the point resembles a sentence-ending period. The count stays close on normal prose but treat technical text as an estimate.
Does my text get uploaded anywhere?
No. Counting happens entirely inside your browser — nothing is sent or stored.
