How the passphrase generator works
Press “Generate passphrase” and the tool picks words at random from a built-in word list using your browser’s cryptographic random generator — the same kind of randomness used for security keys. Choose 4 to 10 words and your preferred separator.
Strength grows with word count: each word multiplies the possibilities by the size of the word list, and the page shows the exact entropy in bits. Eight or more words is a sensible choice for important accounts.
Words are picked by a computer, not by you — human-chosen “lyrics” or quotes are far easier to guess.

What is a passphrase?
A password made of several random words instead of random characters. At similar strength it is much easier to remember and type — the classic example is “correct horse battery staple”.
How random are the words?
Each word is picked with the browser’s cryptographic random number generator (crypto.getRandomValues), not the weaker Math.random, and every word in the list is equally likely.
How many words should I use?
More words means exponentially more strength — the page shows the exact entropy in bits. Six words is a good default; use 8 to 10 words for your most important accounts.
Does the separator choice matter?
Barely. Hyphens, spaces, and underscores all work wherever passphrases are accepted. Pick whatever is easiest to type on your devices.
